Workshops

Meryem’s offers a wide selection of workshops, where participants will walk away with a wealth of cultural knowledge and experience, and, when relevant, with what they have made or picked. Cultural workshops range from making delicacies of Cyprus with a secret family recipe, olive picking from the family grove, and learning about the culture and literature of Cyprus.

The workshops are an average of 3-6 hours, they take place at different times of the year, and are offered to a maximum of 10 participants at a time. The workshops are open to the public, so guests will have the opportunity to meet locals from Kyrenia and the surrounding areas.

Preserves & Jams

Date: December-January
April – June Price: 15 EUR

Included: ingredients, equipment and a special jar to fill with the preserve/jam. Upon completion of the 3-hour workshop, participants receive a jar of preserve/jam they made, along with a “I can make Cypriot Jam” certificate.

Lunch: Cypriot sandwiches and coffee

Hellim/Halloumi Cypriot Cheese Making

Date: June-August Price: 25 EUR

Participants join the process of making Hellim/ Halloumi cheese, which begins with milking the goat through to finish. Upon completion of the 3-hour workshop, participants receive the Hellim/Halloumi they made, along with a “I can make ‘Hellim / Halloumi’ Traditional Cypriot Cheese” certificate.

Lunch: Cypriot sandwiches and coffee

Olive Picking/Oils

Date: October-November Price: 30 EUR

Participants are taken to the family olive grove to pick olives. After lunch* participants are taken to the local olive mill, where they watch the olives they picked transform into olive oil. Upon completion of the 6-hour workshop participants will receive a litre bottle of olive oil, with the opportunity to make their own label, along with a “I survived olive picking and have a bottle of olive oil to prove it” certificate.

Lunch: Traditional Cypriot barbeque

Lemonade & Mandarin Juice

Date: February – March Price: 10 EUR

Participants begin by picking lemons and mandarins from the garden, followed by instructions to make the island’s citrus into Limonata juice. Upon completion of the 3-hour workshop, participants receive a litre bottle of the limonata they made, along with a “I can make Cypriot Limonata” certificate.

Lunch: Cypriot Pasties and Limonata.
